What’s your relationship with transitions?
Breathe into Winter
The pause after the exhale is mostly activates the sympathetic nervous system, which speeds up your heart rate, dilates your pupils, and widens bronchial passages. A spaciousness within the physiology that goes mostly unseen and imperative to the dynamic dance between the inner and outer worlds.
The transition into the pause after the exhale tends to be under-practiced in current breathing techniques. And, it is in the chasm between the exhale and the hold after the exhale that could have beens, what ifs, and shoulds swirl.
Play and get curious about what is here for you as we move into Winter 2023.
Keep the following in mind while playing with your breath
Soften your jaws and forehead.
Beware of forcing your stomach outwards on the inhale and over-contracting on the exhale.
Use your hands to guide where you want to breathe into your body.
If you start to feel dizzy or lightheaded, pause and come back another time.
Remember to consult your health practitioner if you have questions or concerns about breathwork. Practice while sitting or lying down. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, stop and take a break.
